ALASTAIR MACDOUGALL
BIO
I have played acoustic guitar both in a folk duo and folk group in Glasgow for many years, and, since moving to the North East 20 years ago have enjoyed playing and singing at folk sessions, clubs, and concerts
In recent years I have accompanied renowned north east fiddler Paul Anderson on a regular basis and last year I released a CD of songs 'Trees May Bud' with Paul backing on fiddle

I am PVG scheme registered and for the past two years I have been the Advanced Guitar Class guitar tutor for SCAT (Scottish Culture and Tradition) in Aberdeen I have enjoyed the experience including making a class CD at the end of the term
"Thanks Alastair for all your hard work and commitment to our class As I always said there was always a gold nugget to take away and your tuition has made a huge difference to my playing" Colin Milne"
"Was knocked out with the CD and thanks especially to Alastair That last year was the best" Hamish MacDonald

My guitar playing technique is fingerstyle and a thumbpick will be given out free with the first lesson

I would like to pass on my knowledge and experience gained over the years as I think there is endless fun to be had over a lifetime of playing guitar It is terrific fun to meet up and play with other musicians in all sorts of locations and venues

As well as playing guitar at home or with friends or writing your own songs. I realise that there is a growing demand for playing music in folk sessions that incorporate acoustic instruments including fiddles whistles and flutes etc as well as accompanying singers This is a great way to learn tunes. contribute to the overall sound.and meet like minded people in a relaxed atmosphere

The lessons will incorporate teaching accompanying skills to enable playing along with the following tune types commonly found in sessions
Reels, jigs, hornpipes, marches, waltzes, and slow airs
Free CD's of common examples of the above music timings will be provided to help with practice between lessons
It is also very useful and enjoyable to develop singer accompaniment for both traditional and contemporary songs To this end song lyrics and chords will be provided free throughout the course
Individual guitar instrumental pieces which are fun to play will also form part of the course
There will be free handout sheets along the way showing chord shapes and finger positioning etc
